The sophomore EP from Adelaide’s “Short Snarl”, recorded between both the studio and at home February-May 2025.

short snarl is the solo project of Tarntanya-based artist, writer, teaching artist and composer Thea Martin. Accompanied by Sam Wilson (Any Young Mechanic) and V Marousopolous (Keeskea), the trio weave together delicate, intertwined alt-folk. Following the slowly unfurling 2024 release Gossamer Songs (caps lock records / Hobbledehoy Records), their sophomore EP Self Noise features 5 new tracks with an expanded live band sound and newfound confidence in their songwriting. The 5 tracks were recorded largely at Interim Recording Studios by engineer Matt Schultz, as well as fragments recorded in Thea and Sam’s home studio.

“Self Noise refers to the signal a microphone produces of itself, even when no sound source is present. I saw an installation by sound artist Tristan Louth-Robins with this title at the Neoterica exhibition in the Adelaide Railway Station in 2024 that left a wonderful mark on me. I love the in-betweens of sound, the debris and the decay. I also liked that the term self noise could be repurposed to describe a songwriter. These 5 songs, particularly the title track, are my exploration of these 2 ideas held together.”
