In all respects, this has been a long time coming.
Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kevin Devine and I have crossed paths before many years ago, but here we are again, and I couldn’t be happier. His innovative music sits somewhere between conventional genres, still retaining an incredible level of accessibility, intelligence and oftentimes a bold simplicity. His musical career is a story of hard work, building on small victories and embracing supporters. It’s a great fit for Hobbledehoy, and truly an honour to be working with Kevin and his own self-release label Devinyl for AUS/NZ. He had this to say…
“Devinyl is proud to team up with Hobbledehoy – a smart, motivated, truly independent label with a cool & diverse roster. I’m relieved & excited to have found such a philosophically-aligned home for these albums.”
Kevin has released not one but two new albums, and simultaneously to boot. One, Bulldozer, is a solo effort produced by Elliott Smith collaborator Rob Schnapf, and the other, Bubblegum, a full band effort with his Goddamn Band, produced by Jesse Lacey of Brand New. Raising over $100k via a Kickstarter campaign to fund album production and touring, Devine was subsequently highly motivated, buzzing with the amount raised which was over double the $50k target. The result, two brilliant, and different, full length albums.
The Bubblegum/Bulldozer albums are available to download from iTunes and other digital retailers immediately. The vinyl LP and CD editions can be pre-ordered now and will ship from April 2, before the official street date of April 11 2014 when the albums will be in stores nationally.
