Bree van Reyk

Bree van Reyk is a drummer, percussionist, composer and sound artist who makes unconventional and tradition-challenging performance works. Her music resides in the intersection between contemporary classical, indie-rock and performance art. Her musical universe is rich, collaborative and spontaneous; within lives an adventurous sensibility. A knack for noticing the little things and their counterpoints. Darkness and light, pain and pleasure, reality and escape.

The original drummer of Charge Group. Her latest project “SUPERCLUSTERS”, the debut lead under her namesake is a collaboration in five parts where Bree invited some of her closest friends and contemporaries to listen and contribute including Mick Turner and Jim White of Dirty Three.

Over the past 20 or so years Bree has forged a unique career playing and recording with a wide range of artists including Gurrumul, Emma Donovan, Paul Kelly, Holly Throsby, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and Mike Patton.

As a sound artist Bree has been commissioned by MOFO, AGNSW, GOMA, NGV and the MCA, who acquired her performance work, Molto Echo, made in collaboration with Lauren Brincat, for their permanent collection.

Recent commissions include Threaded in Amongst the Infinite Threading for Genevieve Lacey and Marshall McGuire – part of their ARIA Award-winning ‘Bower’ release – The Invisible Bird for Sydney Chamber Opera, and Fanfare for Solidarity for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Bree lives and works on the un-ceded lands of the Gadigal, Bidjigal and Awabakal people.

Bree is a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
